Sun

Wow. Ian Murdock is leaving the Linux Foundation and joining Sun Microsystems as head of Operating System Platform Strategy.

Gutsy move for Sun. Going outside the company, choosing someone deeply aligned with Linux shows a real willingness for change. A bit dangerous, though. Of all the problems facing Solaris, I don't think that the usability gap is at the top of the list.

I hope is does some good stuff with Solaris. I've always been a fan of the OS, as well as Sun's hardware. I've been playing with OpenSolaris for a few weeks, and I'm really impressed. Great stuff. It has come a long way since the OS was first released as open source.
