New York Times: Jane Jacobs, Social Critic Who Redefined and Championed Cities, Is Dead at 89

"The Death and Life of Great American Cities" was a terribly important book. Some of her fundamental questions, such as whether cities exist for people or automobiles, quite literally changed the face of New York City.
