I like how some New Yorkers say "salit" instead of "salad." Would you like the soup and salit special?

Waider just reminded me about something.

We Americans seem to love packaging.

I'm reading a collection of essays by D. T. Suzuki. It is very interesting, but the book is presenting me with a problem.

I'm trying to understand the distinction between the Greek, Judeo-Christian, and Zen frame of mind. Suzuki is talking about the Greek and Hebrew philosophical underpinnings or ways of dividing up reality. He talks about how Hebrew thought divides the world on religious and moral grounds: God and man, spirit and flesh. He then looks at Greek thought, which divides reality based on the mind: intellect vs the senses.

This distinction, the Greek duality of intellect and sense, really made me think.

How pervasive is this frame of mind in my life? How does this duality affect the way I think and perceive the world? In reading these essays, I'm having one of those moments where I'm wondering how much of what I held as true is, in fact, not. As I read Suzuki, I'm thinking, "how could I have been so wrong?"

I want to read more of these essays, to understand this concept of intuition, to understand how confining my concept of "rational" can be.

Someone just dropped off the DVD set of Curb Your Enthusiasm, season one. I'm listening to the cast commentary. So funny.

I'm with gothicnatureboy . I see God in the details. I revel in the world's infinity, on the largest and smallest scales. I worship at the nature's altar. No dogma clouds my understanding of things spiritual, no holy man mediates my communion with the creator.

POTD

This week's theme: leaves and flowers.

I received this in my in-box:

Hey whats cracken,

My dad has this really beat up cheverolet truck in our yard that really needs to be pimped. He's one of those old school type and he needs an upgrade. I was hoping that you could pimp his ride. PLEASE give me all the info I will need to enter him into the contest. I would like to win this for him for his up coming birthday on July 19. It will be the best birthday present that he has ever recieved form me. I wouldnt have to go out and buy him one of those wack ties or watches I always get him. Hes trying really hard right now to get his RN license so my family and I can have a better life and by him getting his ride pimped Im sure its a way I can say thank you for all of your hard work.

Thank you for taking the time to read my e-mail and take it into consideration

Our species is so doomed.

There is absolutely nothing about any site I run that suggests I am MTV or Pimp Your Ride, or that I'm in any way affiliated with MTV. I made one post, the entire text of which was "you're going to pimp my ride," and from that, Shakayla thinks that I'm the one who determines for MTV which rides get pimped and which don't.

Sad. So sad. To be so oblivious to context. So low-functioning. Natural selection has stopped. We're all doomed.

I miss Oblivio.

Photo.net has a concise list of differences between the Canon 10D and Digital Rebel. Nice.

Is it a wig, or is it real?

You be the judge.
